Where it came from
Scroll Rack was originally introduced in the 1997 Tempest set, designed by Mike Elliott to provide players with a powerful method of deck manipulation and card advantage. Its mechanics allow for the strategic exchange of cards between the hand and the top of the library, a capability that solidified its status as a cornerstone of competitive Magic: The Gathering strategy for decades. The card's enduring popularity is rooted in its versatility, offering players a high degree of control over their resources throughout the duration of a match.
The Kaladesh Inventions version, released in 2016, serves as a high-end, premium reimagining of the original card as part of the Masterpiece Series. Designed with the intricate, copper-toned aesthetic characteristic of the Kaladesh plane's artifice-focused culture, this version features stunning metallic foiling and unique border treatments. The artwork was updated to reflect the planar context of the set, emphasizing complex gears and conduits that visually represent the card's function, and was widely celebrated by collectors for its sophisticated design and rarity.
