Where it came from
Scroll Rack was originally introduced in the 1997 Tempest expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Mike Elliott as part of an artifact cycle intended to manipulate the deck's library. The card gained significant notoriety for its ability to enable powerful card filtering strategies, allowing players to exchange cards in their hand for a new set from their library, effectively smoothing out draws and preparing for future turns.
The version featured in the 2020 Commander Legends set, numbered 337, serves as a high-profile reprint of this iconic artifact. Illustrated by Volkan Baga, the art captures the item as an intricate, arcane device, maintaining the aesthetic themes of the original design while updating it for a modern card frame. Upon its inclusion in Commander Legends, it was met with strong interest from the Commander community due to the card's enduring utility in high-power play environments.
