Where it came from
Search for Dagger is a card from the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, specifically originating within the specialized Commander-style decks introduced to celebrate the long-running series. It was designed to capture a key narrative moment from Final Fantasy IX, focusing on the character Garnet Til Alexandros XVII, commonly known as Dagger, as she navigates her journey of self-discovery and the reclamation of her kingdom. The card mechanics are intended to reflect her utility and search capabilities within gameplay, mirroring her role as a character who must navigate complex political and magical landscapes.
The card features artwork commissioned to evoke the aesthetic of the ninth mainline entry, maintaining the distinctive character designs established by Toshiyuki Itahana. The illustration process aimed to bridge the gap between the original PlayStation-era character models and the modern, polished look favored in contemporary card game design. Upon its release, it was received by the player base as an essential utility card for decks centered on IX-themed synergies, appreciated both for its strategic value and the nostalgic artistic direction that remains consistent with the Final Fantasy brand identity.
