Seaside Haven

Seaside Haven was released in 2002 as part of the Onslaught expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused heavily on the creature type tribal synergy, particularly emphasizing birds, clerics, and soldiers, which established a mechanical context for this land card. Designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team, the card was intended to provide utility for decks specifically built around bird creatures, allowing players to sacrifice them for card draw during the late game.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who has contributed art to numerous Magic sets. Her design features a tranquil coastal landscape that evokes the aesthetic of a sanctuary for avian creatures, consistent with the thematic tone of the Onslaught block. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche but functional piece of infrastructure for bird-themed decks, appreciated more for its specific flavor and mechanical utility in casual play than for competitive dominance.
