Where it came from
Seasoned Buttoneer was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to blend the game's mechanics with the whimsical, often humorous aesthetic of a science-fiction carnival. As an Un-set, it was intended to push the boundaries of traditional card design by introducing silver-bordered-style mechanics into a black-bordered context, focusing on interactive, meta-game play patterns.
The card features artwork by illustrator Zezhou Chen, who leaned into the retro-futuristic, vibrant aesthetic prevalent throughout the Unfinity collection. The design centers on the 'sticker' mechanic, a core feature of the set, where players physically apply adhesive-backed stickers to cards to modify their statistics. It was received as a lighthearted mechanical novelty that highlighted the set's experimental nature within the wider Magic ecosystem.
