Seer's Lantern

Seer's Lantern was released in early 2016 as part of the Oath of the Gatewatch expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a common-rarity colorless artifact, it was intended to provide deck-thinning utility and mana-fixing capabilities, particularly for the set's unique focus on colorless mana requirements. Its inclusion in the set reflects the narrative shift toward the Eldrazi invasion of the plane of Zendikar, where relics of this nature were used by survivors to gain foresight.

The card was illustrated by Cliff Childs, who crafted a visual identity centered on the alien, crystalline geometry associated with the Eldrazi and their influence on Zendikar. The design depicts a lantern emitting a soft, ethereal glow, evoking the theme of scrying—a mechanic that allows players to manipulate the top card of their library.
