Where it came from
Senate Courier was released in 2019 as part of the Ravnica Allegiance set, a continuation of Wizards of the Coast’s return to the fan-favorite cityscape of Ravnica. As a card representing the Azorius Senate, it reflects the block’s emphasis on the law-abiding, bureaucratic nature of the guild, utilizing the 'addendum' mechanic to reward players for casting spells during their main phase. The artwork, created by Magali Villeneuve, captures the essence of the guild’s aerial messengers, blending the clinical, rigid architecture of New Prahv with the swift, magical efficiency of the Senate’s reach.
The design of the card emphasizes the Azorius guild's identity through its ability to gain flying and vigilance, mechanics that align with the flavor of a reliable, protective messenger. Villeneuve’s illustration received positive recognition from the community for its cinematic lighting and clear depiction of the guild’s iconic white-and-blue aesthetic. It functions as a functional, low-rarity utility piece that reinforces the set's broader theme of structured play and tactical order.
