Where it came from
The Seraphic Steed (collector number 232p) was released as part of the promotional suite for the 2024 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. This set marked a significant stylistic departure for the game, blending high fantasy elements with the iconography and tropes of the American Old West. The card itself represents the intersection of these themes, reimagining the traditional celestial creature aesthetic within the gritty, sun-drenched environment of the plane of Thunder Junction.
The design of this promotional variant emphasizes the set's unique visual identity, featuring alternate art that highlights the rugged, adventurous tone intended for the collection. As a promotional release, the card served as a sought-after collectible for players participating in launch events, reflecting Wizards of the Coast's ongoing commitment to pairing mechanical gameplay utility with distinct, evocative artistic presentations that define the flavor of their diverse multi-planar settings.
