Where it came from
Shanna, Sisay's Legacy was originally introduced in the Dominaria set as a reimagining of a classic Weatherlight saga character, designed to reflect her role as the daughter of the legendary Captain Sisay. This specific iteration appears as part of the Multiverse Legends bonus sheet within the March of the Machine set, which served as a celebration of iconic figures from across the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The card features the distinct, frame-breaking etched foil aesthetic that defines the Multiverse Legends series.
The card’s illustration, rendered with a focus on Shanna’s connection to the Selesnya Conclave and her defensive combat prowess, was designed to emphasize her unique ability to scale based on the size of a player's army. It was received by the player base as a thoughtful nod to lore-heavy characters who have evolved over decades of storytelling. By bringing her back in this stylized format, the designers aimed to honor both long-time fans of the Weatherlight crew and newer players drawn to high-fantasy character archetypes.
