Shatter

Shatter, identified as collector number mj219, was released as part of the Pro Tour Collector Set, a specialized collection issued by Wizards of the Coast. These sets were designed to provide players and collectors with an accessible way to own decklists from high-level Magic: The Gathering tournaments, specifically capturing the competitive landscape of the late 1990s. The card features a distinct gold-bordered backing, which visually separates these tournament-replica items from standard tournament-legal playing cards.

The card illustration and design originate from the core Magic: The Gathering sets of the era, where Shatter served as a functional and widely utilized artifact removal spell. While the original art was credited to various illustrators depending on the specific printing cycle, the Pro Tour Collector Set versions were meant to mirror the competitive meta-game. These sets were received primarily as training and reference tools, allowing players to study championship-winning strategies without the prohibitive cost of acquiring the individual high-rarity cards from standard booster packs.
