Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse was introduced as part of the Dominaria United expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in September 2022. The character Sheoldred is a central figure in the game's lore, serving as one of the five Praetors of New Phyrexia, a faction defined by their biomechanical aesthetic and philosophy of forced perfection through compleation. This particular card was designed as a powerful mythic rare, intended to punish opponents for drawing cards while providing a resilient threat on the battlefield.

The artwork for this version was illustrated by Conn Jackson, who captured Sheoldred’s imposing, multi-limbed, and unsettling form in a signature Phyrexian style. The card quickly became a staple in multiple competitive formats, including Commander and Standard, due to its efficient mana cost and high impact. The promo version, distinguished by its unique collector number and foil treatment, is highly sought after by players and collectors for both its strategic utility and its role as a representative of the Phyrexian narrative arc.
