Sheoldred, the Apocalypse // Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United set for Magic: The Gathering. This specific card represents a major narrative return for the Phyrexians, a long-standing faction of biomechanical horrors in the game's lore. The character Sheoldred, a Praetor of the black mana color, was reimagined for this set to showcase her manipulative power and role in the ongoing conflict on the plane of Dominaria, serving as a centerpiece for the set's themes of corruption and rebirth.

The art featured on the Dominaria United Art Series edition is a high-definition reproduction of the original digital illustration by artist Igor Kieryluk. Kieryluk, a seasoned contributor to the game, aimed to capture the character's formidable and unsettling presence, emphasizing her intricate, insectile physiology and the grim aesthetic of the Phyrexian aesthetic. These art cards were distributed as promotional inserts in collector boosters, designed specifically for enthusiasts to appreciate the visual storytelling of the set without the mechanical gameplay text.
