Shimmer Myr was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering multiverse in the 2011 Mirrodin Besieged set, serving as a mechanical staple that granted flash to artifacts. Its inclusion in the 2023 March of the Machine Commander set, numbered 376, featured updated card frames and artwork that remained faithful to the original aesthetic established by Jana Schirmer and Johannes Voss. The card design is intended to emphasize the fluidity of the Mirran artifacts, which are often depicted as crystalline, semi-sentient constructs capable of shifting their physical state at a moment's notice.

Jana Schirmer and Johannes Voss collaborated on the original illustration to capture the distinct aesthetic of the Phyrexians' opponents on Mirrodin.
