Where it came from
Siege Modification was released in 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt expansion for Magic: The Gathering, set on the plane of Kaladesh. The card reflects the set's central conflict, where local inventors were forced to repurpose their creative, artifice-based inventions into weapons to combat the oppressive Consulate regime. It mechanically represents this theme by turning a creature into a vehicle, emphasizing the desperate ingenuity of the plane's resistance.
The card was illustrated by artist Josh Hass. The visual design focuses on the thematic union of biology and machinery, depicting a figure enhancing a mechanical construct. Within the meta-game, it is recognized as a niche utility card that saw use primarily in constructed formats like Commander, where players value its ability to protect key creatures from sorcery-speed removal by turning them into artifacts.
