Sigarda's Summons // Sigarda's Summons

Sigarda's Summons was originally released as part of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow expansion in late 2021, a set designed to immerse players in a gothic horror setting featuring a wedding between two vampires. The card serves as a thematic centerpiece for the flight of Sigarda, a central angel figure in the lore who defends humanity against the terrors of the plane. This specific version belongs to the Art Series, a collectible sub-set created by Wizards of the Coast to highlight the intricate illustrations commissioned for the expansion, presenting them on cards without the typical gameplay borders and text boxes.

The artwork for this piece was crafted by illustrator Johannes Voss, who is recognized for his evocative and ethereal style within the trading card game community. Voss sought to capture the divine authority and protective nature of Sigarda as she rallies her hosts. By removing the traditional game frame, the Art Series allows the viewer to focus entirely on the painterly brushwork and the dramatic, celestial lighting that defines the design, which has been widely praised by fans for its aesthetic quality and contribution to the world-building of the Innistrad narrative.
