Where it came from
Sigardian Zealot was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander set. This set was designed to complement the main horror-themed expansion, focusing on the human resistance living under the protection of the archangel Sigarda amidst the encroaching darkness of an eternal night. The card features a member of the Dawnguard, the militant arm of Sigarda’s followers, embodying the aesthetic of avian-inspired ecclesiastical armor that defines the faction.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the character's fervor and protective role within the Magic: The Gathering lore. Mechanically, the card was designed to support white-aligned deck strategies by providing a recursive element that allows players to return cards from their graveyard to their hand. Its reception among players has been steady, noted primarily as a useful utility piece for Commander decks centered on human tribal synergies or reanimation tactics.
