Where it came from
Sigardian Zealot was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander set. The card reflects the thematic tension of the Innistrad plane, where humanity is besieged by supernatural forces and must rely on the protective, yet increasingly fanatical, tenets of the Church of Avacyn. It represents the militant spirit of the inquisitors who serve Sigarda, the archangel of the flight of the heron.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the stoic and armored aesthetic characteristic of the Sigardian order. The design intent was to provide a utility creature that rewards players for focusing on a single creature type, aligning with the tribal synergy mechanics prevalent in Commander deck design. Upon its release, it was noted for its tactical value in human-centric builds, functioning as a reliable role-player for players building around the iconic Innistrad human identity.
