Provenance

Where it came from

Silverback Shaman was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends set, the first full booster set designed specifically for the Commander multiplayer format. The card was crafted to support the 'Green-White' archetype within the set's draft environment, providing a creature that offers both a respectable body and a beneficial effect for players focused on creature-based strategies.

The card features artwork by the illustrator Svetlin Velinov, who has contributed to the Magic: The Gathering franchise for many years. His design choices for the Silverback Shaman lean into the high-fantasy aesthetic of the setting, emphasizing the imposing, protective nature of the ape figure. Upon release, the card was received as a solid utility piece for limited play, valued for its ability to stabilize a board presence while replacing itself in a player's hand.
