Where it came from
The Silverback Shaman was released in 2019 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020. This set was designed to be an accessible entry point for new players while providing enough mechanical depth for veterans, often featuring reprints alongside new cards intended to flesh out the game's creature types and mechanical archetypes.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the stoic, primal nature of the creature to fit the shamanistic flavor of the Green color identity in the game. Upon its release, it was received as a solid, functional creature card for the Limited format, appreciated by players for its balance of power and toughness and its utility as a reliable mid-game presence on the battlefield.
