Where it came from
Silverclad Ferocidons were released as part of the Rivals of Ixalan set in early 2018, specifically appearing as a promotional card for the set's release events. These cards were distributed to participants to incentivize engagement with the game's dinosaur-themed tribal mechanics, which centered on the Enrage keyword ability that rewarded players for damaging their own creatures.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who captured the imposing, armored aesthetic of the creature to fit the plane of Ixalan, a setting heavily influenced by Mesoamerican history and high-fantasy exploration. The design was received by the player base as a powerful tool in limited formats, particularly for its ability to punish opponents who relied on small-creature board states, solidifying its place as a memorable heavy hitter from that expansion cycle.
