Silverquill Command // Silverquill Command

Silverquill Command was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series in 2021. This subset of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game was designed to highlight the illustrative talent behind the set, featuring oversized, borderless versions of cards that emphasize the aesthetic identity of the five magical colleges. Silverquill, known for its focus on eloquence and political maneuvering, reflects a distinct aesthetic of high-contrast, ink-drenched imagery that differentiates it from the other institutional houses.

The artwork for this piece was created by illustrator Matt Stewart, who sought to capture the duality of the Silverquill house, which balances refined academic rhetoric with the sharp lethality of shadow magic. By stripping away the traditional card borders and text boxes found in standard gameplay versions, the Art Series allows the composition and color palette to take center stage. The piece was well-received by collectors who prioritize the visual narrative of the game, serving as a dedicated celebration of the artist's role in world-building.
