What it does

Malaysian National Champion Sim Han How raised some eyebrows by posting a 6-0 record with his blue-green-red "Squirrel Opposition" deck. This deck tried to get out lots of Squirrel tokens with Squirrel Nest before using Opposition to tie up the opponent's creatures and mana. Han How won quite a few games using some tricky sideboarding, such as pulling out his enchantments and bringing in more beatdown cards like Flametongue Kavu and Roar of the Wurm. Besides being a top Magic® player, Han How is also a student at Bandar Utama College in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Provenance

Where it came from

The Sim Han How card was released as part of the World Championship Decks 2002 series for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These decks were specifically designed to replicate the exact card lists used by the top eight finalists at the 2002 Magic World Championship held in Sydney, Australia, allowing fans to play with the same strategies as the professional players.

The design of the deck and the accompanying biographical card reflect the playstyle of Sim Han How, a competitor from Singapore who earned his place in the tournament. The card features a distinct gold-bordered back to distinguish these reproductions from standard tournament-legal cards. While the deck itself was intended to provide a snapshot of the competitive meta-game of the time, the biographical insert serves as a commemorative piece documenting the participant's journey and achievements within the professional circuit.
