Siren Stormtamer

Siren Stormtamer was originally printed in the 2017 Magic: The Gathering expansion Ixalan, a set themed around high-seas adventure, tribal conflict, and the exploration of a Mesoamerican-inspired jungle continent. Designed to support the set's blue-aligned Pirate archetype, the card provides a low-cost, flying utility creature capable of countering spells that target the player or their permanents. Its inclusion in 'The List'—a rotating selection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast for inclusion in Set Boosters—introduced it to a wider audience years after its original debut.

The art was commissioned from illustrator Magali Villeneuve, who is well known for her atmospheric and detailed contributions to the game. She captured the ethereal, defensive nature of the siren, balancing the creature's predatory folklore origins with its mechanical role as a protective ward. Upon its release, the card became a staple in tempo-oriented decks due to its efficiency and the flexibility provided by its activated ability, earning a lasting reputation among players who value incremental advantage and board interaction.
