Where it came from
Sivriss, Nightmare Speaker was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. This set was designed specifically for the Commander multiplayer format and centered on the iconic lore of the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The character, a member of the lizardfolk race, serves as an antagonist within the Baldur's Gate setting, embodying the dark, necromantic themes often associated with the game's more unsettling adversaries.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who rendered Sivriss with a focus on its eerie, ritualistic aesthetic. The design aims to capture the essence of a 'Nightmare Speaker' by emphasizing ghostly motifs and a sense of impending dread. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche but effective tool for graveyard-focused decks, praised for its unique mechanics that encourage resource trading in a multiplayer environment.
