Where it came from
Sky Tether was released in 2020 as part of the Jumpstart set for Magic: The Gathering. This set was designed specifically to facilitate a unique, quick-play format where players shuffle two pre-constructed, themed packs together to form a deck, making the game more accessible to newcomers and casual players who want to avoid the complexities of traditional deck building.
The card features artwork by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who utilized a soft, ethereal aesthetic to capture the essence of the card's function, which is to immobilize flying creatures. As an enchantment that restricts movement rather than destroying the target, the design reflects the classic mechanical identity of white-aligned spells in the game, which emphasize containment and pacifism over aggressive removal.
