Provenance

Where it came from

The Sliver token was released in 2023 as part of the Commander Masters set, specifically appearing in the accompanying token suite. Slivers are a signature creature type in Magic: The Gathering, first introduced in the 1997 Tempest set. They are characterized by a hive-mind biology where each individual shares its unique evolutionary traits with the entire colony, a concept that has remained a fan favorite for decades.

This specific token iteration features modern digital art that maintains the classic, spindly aesthetic associated with the species. Designers aimed to capture the unsettling, insectoid elegance of the creatures while ensuring they were clearly identifiable on the board during complex Commander games. The token serves as a functional companion to cards that generate Sliver creature tokens, reflecting the game's long-standing design focus on synergistic tribal mechanics.
