Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token was released in 2014 as part of the Journey into Nyx expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were included in randomized booster packs to represent creatures created by specific card abilities, such as those found on cards like Pharika, God of Affliction. The design fits within the set's Greco-Roman mythological theme, which emphasizes the enchantment-heavy aesthetic of the plane of Nyx.

Illustrated by Nils Hamm, the token features a distinctive, ethereal art style that aligns with the visual identity of the Theros block. Hamm utilized a palette of muted greens and purples to emphasize the otherworldly nature of Nyx-born creatures. The token was received as a standard utility piece, appreciated by players for its atmospheric consistency with the mechanics of the set's green and black alignment.
