Where it came from
The Snake token, numbered 11 in the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set, was released in 2021 as a supplement for the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander decks. These tokens were designed to represent the various creatures summoned by players during the course of the game, specifically serving the mechanics of the Witherbloom and Prismari-themed decks that frequently utilized Snake tokens to populate the battlefield.
The art for this token reflects the aesthetic of Strixhaven University, emphasizing the magical, scholarly, and often overgrown botanical themes characteristic of the Witherbloom college. Produced by Wizards of the Coast, the design aims to align with the high-fantasy visual language of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, balancing clarity for gameplay with the intricate illustrative style typical of modern card tokens.
