Snake Umbra

Snake Umbra first appeared in the Commander 2018 set, designed by Wizards of the Coast to support enchantment-heavy strategies in the multiplayer Commander format. It functions as an Aura that provides both power-buffing capabilities and a card-draw engine whenever the enchanted creature deals combat damage to an opponent, a classic design trope meant to reward aggressive board presence while maintaining hand resources.

The inclusion of this specific printing in The List—a curated selection of past cards randomly inserted into modern booster packs—reflects its enduring utility in casual Magic: The Gathering circles. The artwork, which draws on the thematic aesthetic of the Kamigawa plane's spiritual and serpentine creatures, was intended to evoke a sense of mystical power, and it remains a staple for players looking to protect their key creatures with the totem armor mechanic.
