Where it came from
Snakeskin Veil was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Mystical Archive subset in 2021. This collection served as a curated anthology of powerful instant and sorcery spells from Magic: The Gathering history, reimagined with unique, academic-themed art styles to reflect the aesthetic of Strixhaven University. The card itself was originally printed in the Kaldheim expansion, designed to provide a protective, low-cost buff for creatures in green-aligned decks.
The illustration for this iteration was created by artist Livia Prima, who utilized the Mystical Archive's signature stained-glass aesthetic. Her design emphasizes the serpentine imagery inherent to the spell's name, blending organic forms with the intricate, mosaic-like framing required by the set's unified visual identity. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for both its functional utility in competitive formats and its striking, stylistic departure from standard card art.
