Sokrates, Athenian Teacher

Sokrates, Athenian Teacher is a character card featured in the Assassin's Creed expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2024. This set falls under the Universes Beyond label, which integrates intellectual properties outside of the core Magic multiverse into the game's mechanics. The card draws directly from the historical and digital depiction of the philosopher in the Assassin's Creed video game series, where he serves as a key mentor and guide to the protagonist during the Peloponnesian War era.

The card was designed to reflect the philosophical nature of its subject, utilizing game mechanics that emphasize dialogue, questioning, and social influence rather than direct combat. Illustrators working on this set aimed to bridge the gap between Ubisoft's stylized character design and the traditional aesthetic of trading card art. Upon release, the set was noted for its success in translating the open-world narrative elements of the franchise into a tabletop format, garnering positive attention from both strategy gamers and series enthusiasts.
