Where it came from
The Sol Talisman was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set, Modern Horizons 2. This set was designed specifically for the Modern format, aiming to introduce powerful cards that cater to experienced players while simultaneously referencing the deep lore and mechanical history of the game. The item functions as a suspend-based tribute to the original Sol Ring, one of the most iconic and powerful artifacts in the history of the game.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized a clean, ethereal aesthetic to capture the celestial nature of the talisman. The design was received as a clever mechanical callback, balancing the raw mana-acceleration power of its predecessor by introducing a time delay through the suspend keyword. It has become a staple for players who enjoy artifact-focused decks and strategic long-term planning within the Modern and Commander formats.
