Soul of Migration

Soul of Migration was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, this set was designed specifically for the Modern format, aiming to introduce powerful new cards while simultaneously reviving mechanics and themes from the game's long history. The card embodies the set's focus on synergistic interactions, offering a creature that provides board presence through its 'evoke' ability, which allows players to cast it for a reduced cost at the expense of it being sacrificed shortly thereafter.

The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the game known for his expressive, light-filled aesthetic. Voss captures the ethereal nature of the creature, emphasizing a sense of movement and transcendence that matches the card's namesake migration theme. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its utility in limited formats and its ability to generate multiple creature tokens, serving as a reliable engine piece for white-aligned decks looking to leverage graveyard and sacrifice strategies.
