Soul of New Phyrexia

Soul of New Phyrexia was originally released in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering core set, Magic 2015. It serves as a narrative anchor for the plane of New Phyrexia, a corrupted world dominated by the Phyrexians, a recurring faction of biomechanical entities focused on forced evolution. Designed as an artifact creature, the card utilizes a powerful activated ability to grant indestructible status to all permanents the controller owns, reflecting the resilient and relentless nature of the Phyrexians.

The art for this card was created by Vincent Proce, who sought to capture the sterile, metallic, and terrifying aesthetic of the New Phyrexian landscape. By using cold, desaturated colors and sharp, invasive geometry, the illustration emphasizes the mechanical horror core to the faction's identity. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its late-game utility in Commander and other casual formats, eventually earning a place in The List, a curated selection of reprints integrated into modern booster packs to provide players with access to older, iconic cards.
