Where it came from
The Souvenir T-Shirt was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the fourth entry in the 'Un-set' series, the expansion was designed to blend traditional card game mechanics with a whimsical, space-carnival aesthetic. The card reflects this theme by satirizing the common practice of gaming stores selling merchandise, featuring artwork that highlights the absurd intersection of hobbyist culture and science-fiction pageantry.
The design of the card is attributed to illustrator Joshua Raphael, who leaned into a vibrant, retro-futuristic style to match the set's amusement park motif. Within the game's mechanics, the card serves as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the physical artifacts associated with conventions and events. It was generally well-received by players who appreciated the lighthearted self-referential humor that has become a hallmark of the Un-set experience.
