Spark Fiend was released in 1998 as part of the Unglued expansion, the first silver-bordered set produced by Wizards of the Coast. Designed by a team led by Mark Rosewater, the set was intended as a humorous, satirical take on Magic: The Gathering, intentionally breaking traditional rules to create unconventional gameplay experiences.
