Where it came from
Spellbook Vendor was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to support the set's fairy-tale aesthetic, focusing on the whimsical and sometimes opportunistic characters found in classic folklore. As a promo card, this specific version features unique border treatments designed to appeal to collectors who favor the set's storybook-inspired art style.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Alayna Danner, who has been a frequent contributor to Magic: The Gathering. Danner utilized a soft, painterly technique to emphasize the magical nature of the vendor's wares, aiming to evoke a sense of curiosity and mystery. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its utility in limited formats and its contribution to the overall thematic immersion of the Eldraine plane.
