Where it came from
Spellbook Vendor was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set draws inspiration from fairy tales and folklore, reimagining classic tropes within the game's high-fantasy multiverse. As a creature card, this vendor serves as a thematic element representing the whimsical yet functional aspects of the Eldraine setting, where magical commerce is a staple of everyday life.
The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Lie Setiawan. The design focuses on the visual language of a traveling merchant, utilizing soft, storybook-inspired lighting and textures that align with the set's artistic direction of 'fairy tale nostalgia.' Upon its release, players recognized the card for its utility in limited-format play, specifically for its ability to provide consistent creature buffs, solidifying its place in the broader collection of Eldraine-themed utility creatures.
