Provenance

Where it came from

Spellskite was originally introduced in the 2011 Magic: The Gathering set New Phyrexia. The card design serves as a powerful utility creature capable of redirecting spells or abilities, reflecting the body-horror and biomechanical themes central to the Phyrexian faction within the game's lore.

This specific iteration is part of a Secret Lair drop, a series of curated, limited-release sets featuring unique art treatments. The design leans into the surreal aesthetic of the Phyrexian aesthetic, reimagined by contemporary illustrators to emphasize the grotesque, transformative nature of the creature as it consumes or deflects magical energy.
