Provenance

Where it came from

The Forest card, appearing as part of the Secret Lair Drop series with collector number 1656, was released as part of a specialized, limited-run collection by Wizards of the Coast. These drops are designed to offer unique, artist-driven interpretations of iconic Magic: The Gathering cards, moving away from standard set aesthetics to provide players with highly stylized, collectible alternatives for their decks.

This specific iteration features the work of artist Abigail Larson, known for her distinct, atmospheric, and gothic-inspired illustration style. The design was crafted to evoke a sense of eerie, fairy-tale woodland wonder, prioritizing artistic cohesion over traditional game-text prominence. Upon release, this series was received positively by the enthusiast community for its emphasis on creative expression and its departure from the traditional visual identity of the game.
