Where it came from
Spirit Bonds was released in July 2014 as part of the Magic 2015 core set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card reflects the set's focus on creature-centric gameplay and thematic resonance, specifically within the white color identity which often emphasizes protection and spiritual guardianship.
The card features artwork by Lake Hurwitz, who aimed to evoke a sense of ethereal connection between a protector and those under their care. The design was received by players as a functional utility card in casual and Limited formats, appreciated for its ability to provide both board presence through Spirit tokens and incremental protection for other creatures on the battlefield.
