Spirit Mantle

Spirit Mantle was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2012, designed as an uncommon enchantment that provides both a power boost and a form of evasion known as protection from creatures. It fits into the long-standing design lineage of white aura enchantments that manipulate combat math by rendering a creature unblockable while simultaneously shielding it from opposing defenders. The Planechase Anthology version, released in 2016, features the original illustration by Dan Dos Santos, who sought to capture the ethereal, protective essence of the spell through a composition that emphasizes light and spiritual resonance.

The card was well-received within the Commander and casual play formats, where its ability to turn a singular creature into a potent, protected threat remains a staple tactical choice. Its inclusion in the Planechase Anthology box set served to reprint various cards from across the game's history in a consolidated package, allowing players access to versatile utility cards alongside the unique mechanics of the Planechase variant. The art remains celebrated for its clean, high-fantasy aesthetic, which contrasts the defensive nature of the card with the offensive capability it grants the controller's permanents.
