Spiritcall Enthusiast // Scrollboost

Spiritcall Enthusiast and its counterpart, Scrollboost, emerged as part of the Secrets of Strixhaven expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set draws deep thematic inspiration from the high-fantasy academic aesthetic of Strixhaven University, focusing on the intersection of arcane research and spiritual manifestations. The card was designed to highlight the dual-natured gameplay mechanics introduced in this set, which encourage players to balance tactical spellcasting with the deployment of spirit-aligned creatures.

The visual identity of this card is deeply rooted in the artistic traditions of the Silverquill and Prismari colleges, characterized by elegant, flowing linework and a muted, ethereal color palette. Designers sought to evoke a sense of scholarly discovery, positioning the illustrated enthusiast as an earnest bridge between traditional scroll-based learning and the literal invocation of spectral energy. Upon release, the card was well-received by draft players who appreciated its versatility as an utility piece within the broader, mechanics-heavy environment of the set.
