Spiteful Hexmage // Spiteful Hexmage

The Spiteful Hexmage card from the Wilds of Eldraine Art Series was released in 2023 as part of Wizards of the Coast's initiative to highlight the illustrative talent behind the Magic: The Gathering card game. These cards are intended as collectible displays rather than playable game pieces, featuring high-quality, full-art representations of the original creature designs found within the core expansion set.

The artwork for this particular piece was created by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a dark, atmospheric color palette to capture the sinister, spell-casting nature of the character. The design reflects the broader aesthetic of the Wilds of Eldraine set, which drew heavily from classic fairy tale motifs reimagined through a more ominous and high-fantasy lens. Collectors prize these cards for the removal of traditional game text, allowing the composition and intricate details of the illustration to take center stage.
