Steadfast Paladin

Steadfast Paladin was released in 2021 as part of Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, the first Magic: The Gathering expansion set to bridge the world of Dungeons & Dragons with the card game's mechanics. The set was designed to capture the flavor of iconic D&D tropes, such as class abilities and dungeon delving, and this card specifically represents the archetype of a protective, holy warrior. It was crafted to provide a solid defensive option for players using white mana, utilizing the lifelink keyword to reward the player for maintaining a stable board presence.

The card's illustration was created by artist Livia Prima, who has contributed numerous designs to the Magic: The Gathering catalog. Her approach focused on the traditional visual language of a paladin—clad in shining, heavy plate armor and wielding a glowing weapon—to convey a sense of moral fortitude and divine duty. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional and thematic inclusion that resonated well with both Magic players and Dungeons & Dragons fans who appreciated how the art and flavor text effectively translated tabletop roleplaying archetypes into a fast-paced card game format.
