Stone Rain // Stone Rain

Stone Rain originated as a staple card in the earliest days of Magic: The Gathering, first appearing in the Alpha set of 1993. As a classic land destruction spell, it reflects the game's early philosophy regarding the ability to disrupt an opponent's mana base. The Strixhaven Art Series version, released in 2021, recontextualizes this iconic effect within the magical academic setting of the Strixhaven University plane, featuring dedicated artwork that highlights the card's elemental power.

This specific iteration is part of a special subset of cards known as Art Series cards, which were distributed in Strixhaven: School of Mages Collector Boosters. These cards are notable for featuring high-quality, full-bleed artwork that lacks the traditional borders and text boxes found on standard game cards, designed primarily for collectors to appreciate the illustrative work commissioned by Wizards of the Coast. The illustration for this piece emphasizes the raw, tectonic nature of the spell, moving away from the more functional aesthetic of its original 1990s release.
