Storm Crow

Storm Crow was originally illustrated by Chippy for the Alliances expansion in 1996, quickly becoming a staple of Magic: The Gathering lore. The Ninth Edition printing, released in 2005, updated the card’s frame to the modern layout while retaining the original artwork, which depicts a weathered, slightly ominous bird soaring through a storm-tossed sky. This version served as a quintessential example of a common-rarity flying creature that players would frequently encounter in casual draft environments of the era.

The card has gained an ironic reputation within the community over the decades. While its mechanical abilities are unremarkable, a long-standing inside joke among players began to frame the card as an immensely powerful or 'broken' entity. This tongue-in-cheek mythos elevated Storm Crow from a standard draft filler to a mascot for the game’s culture, with the Ninth Edition release standing as a significant artifact of this period in the game's history.
