Storm Crow

Storm Crow was originally introduced as a common card in the 1997 Weatherlight expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Wizards of the Coast to populate the game's creature base with low-cost flying threats. The Starter 1999 printing, which features the artwork by the illustrator Rebecca Guay, was released as part of an introductory product line intended to simplify the game for new players. By repurposing existing cards with updated borders and simplified card frames, this release ensured that established mechanics remained accessible to a broader, newer audience.

The artwork by Rebecca Guay is frequently cited by players for its distinct, ethereal aesthetic, which diverges from the grittier fantasy art common in early sets. Over the decades, Storm Crow has evolved from a humble gameplay piece into a persistent community meme, often ironically lauded by the player base for its perceived power despite its modest stats. This unique status has cemented the card as a notable piece of Magic: The Gathering trivia, representing the intersection of functional game design and the unpredictable nature of fan culture.
