Story Circle

Story Circle was originally introduced in the Mercadian Masques expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 1999, eventually being reprinted in the Ninth Edition core set in 2005. As a white enchantment, it functions as a protective tool, allowing players to choose a color and prevent damage from sources of that color. The design reflects the strategic focus of white-aligned cards in this era, which emphasized reactive play and board state management through damage mitigation.

The artwork for the Ninth Edition version was created by Greg Staples, whose illustrative style emphasizes a sense of ethereal movement and ritualistic power. The card was designed to be a versatile sideboard option, providing players with a means to counter specific color-based strategies. It remains a notable example of utility-focused card design that prioritizes long-term resilience over immediate aggression.
