Where it came from
Strixhaven Stadium was introduced as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, released in 2021. The card was conceptualized as a rare land artifact representing the central athletic arena of Strixhaven University, the game's prestigious multiversal school of magic. The promo version, collector number 259p, was distributed through the game's promotional channels to highlight the set's collegiate theme and the mechanics of competitive play.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Titus Lunter, who designed the stadium to reflect the gothic and academic aesthetic characteristic of the Strixhaven campus. Lunter aimed to capture the scale and magical grandeur of a venue capable of hosting inter-collegiate magical competitions, utilizing sharp architectural lines and ambient lighting to ground the stadium within the world of Arcavios. The card was generally well-received by players for its flavorful connection to the set's lore and its unique, game-ending condition that encourages aggressive deck building.
